The art of making handmade boxes like these is called cartonnage, which originated in France in the 1800s and refers to constructing boxes from greyboard and applying beautiful papers, bookcloth, or fabrics. It’s the perfect medium for elevated needlepoint finishes. This art form differs from other forms of needlepoint finishing. It uses non-yellowing PVA acid-free glue throughout the process. We will instruct for square/rectangle opening with one orientation (horizontal or vertical).

 This class is appropriate for Cartonnage beginners, but some matboard/ornament finishing experience is strongly suggested. 

Not Done Stitching a Frame? 

Totally fine! Just come with a finished size of frame in mind including inside and outside dimensions. You'll be able to add the frame later.
